WOODBRIDGE, Va. - A public meeting is being held Thursday night to discuss the proposed North Woodbridge Interchange at Route 1 and Route 123.
The new interchange could be a major help in keeping traffic moving through the area, especially after thousands of defense-related workers are relocated under the Base Realignment and Closure plan.
"Building a new road and a new interchange that will, on the short term, cause a lot of delay but in the long term greatly improves their quality of life," says Woodbridge District Supervisor Frank Principi.
BRAC will move some 24,000 military families to Ft. Belvoir and Quantico. The interchange is situated right between the two bases on Route 1.
Principi is pushing the Virginia Department of Transportation to complete the work in phases and wants the work to being in 2013.
The meeting will be held Thursday night between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. at Botts Fire Hall, at 1306 F Street in Woodbridge.
