Stadium setback for Loudoun County

WASHINGTON — VIP Sports and Entertainment may not build a stadium at One Loudoun at Route 7 and the Loudoun County Parkway in Ashburn, according to McLean-based developers Miller and Smith.

The developers are looking to terminate their lease with VIP Sports and Entertainment. The stadium was to be part of a larger residential and commercial development in Ashburn.

VIP Sports and Entertainment, based in Dulles, was set to bring a minor league baseball team called the Loudoun Hounds and North American Soccer League team Virginia Cavalry FC to the stadium.

However, VIP Sports and Entertainment was unable to deliver the stadium by April 2014. The company’s website still says, “Our ballpark will combine ultramodern conveniences with a distinctive design honoring the natural beauty of our area. It will be adaptable to host an impressive range of spectacles, from professional and amateur sports to world-renowned headline entertainment – but it will always be accessible to the public, through a variety of community events and charitable outreach.”

One Loudoun is asking for $500,000 in damages, the Loudoun Times reported.
