Cooper’s Hawk Winery comes to Ashburn and other new restaurant news

Loudoun County, known as D.C.’s wine country, will have a new, imported vintage come 2015. Illinois-based Cooper’s Hawk Winery and Restaurant will open its first D.C. area location in Ashburn.

The restaurant, which serves American fare and house-branded wine in an upscale casual setting, will open late next year in Ashburn at the Whole Foods-anchored Belmont Chase retail center at Claiborne Parkway and Russell Branch Parkway, according to a statement.

Founded in 2006 by Tim McEnery, Cooper’s Hawk makes wine at an Illinois-based production facility using grapes it purchases from the West Coast. The group’s blanc de blanc was the exclusive sparkling wine served during Michelle Obama’s toast at the Illinois inaugural ball, according to the restaurant’s website.

Cooper’s Hawk has 16 locations in Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, Ohio, Wisconsin and Florida, with several more planned for the next year, including one in Richmond, Virginia. The Ashburn location will include a bar and restaurant, barrel aging room for special events and a full-service tasting room with retail store and chocolatier, according to a release.

Next Realty’s Andrew Rose and George Galloway represented the tenant, and H&R Retail’s Geoffrey Mackler and Bradley Buslik and Regency Centers’ Jack de Villiers represented the landlord.

Noelia: We’re swapping out Italian restaurants at 1319 F St. NW near Metro Center, with Noelia opening Monday in the former Finemondo space. We told you about Noelia’s owner, a DOD and FBI consultant turned restaurateur Kaiser Gill, last month. The 6,000-square-foot restaurant will serve an upscale Italian menu from Executive Chef Carmen Gianna Piazza, previously of Cafe Milano and Sette Osteria. The restaurant also plans to have a DJ and dancing in the later part of the evening on weekends.

&pizza: Another location of local fast-casual pizza chain &pizza has opened, this one at 10th and E streets NW. On the same block as the E Street Cinema, the design of the space includes movie theater-style touches, including a marquee light using globe bulbs and a black-and-white motif meant to embody film’s earlier days, according to a release. It’s the fifth location for &pizza, which also has stores on H Street NE, U Street NW, in the Brookland neighborhood of D.C. and in Bethesda.

Alexandria restaurants: Two restaurants we reported on previously have made it a done deal for the Braddock neighborhood of Alexandria. Bastille has signed a lease for a 100-seat restaurant at the Asher Apartments, a mixed-use property at 620 N. Fayette St. The owners plan to turn their existing, smaller Old Town restaurant into a more casual concept, Bistro Royal. In addition, Lost Dog Cafe has signed its lease in the Belle Pre Apartments, a 360-unit apartment complex on U.S. Route 1. Brendan Clark of Renaud Consulting represented Lost Dog and Steve Graul of Innovative Concept Associates Inc. represented Bastille. The Rappaport Cos. represented both landlords.
