The planned Loudoun County Topgolf will employ 120 people full time and attract upward of 450,000 visitors in its first year of operation, the company said Wednesday.
Though we've known about it for some time, the Dallas-based Topgolf chain officially announced it will construct a flagship location at the Peterson Cos.' Commonwealth Center near the intersection of Route 7 and the Loudoun County Parkway in Ashburn. Despite its mailing address, it will be called Topgolf Dulles, and it will be within a 20-minute drive of roughly 50 million square feet of office space (and, more importantly, golfers) with the continuing build-out of the Silver Line corridor.
The facility will be constructed by ARCO/Murray National Construction Co. Inc. It is scheduled to open in April 2015.
The three-level, 65,000-square-foot facility, modeled after the flagship Houston Topgolf, will feature 102 climate-controlled driving bays, 3,000 square feet of private event space, 230 TVs, live music and a large food and beverage menu. The photos above are of the Houston outpost.
The county, and the Peterson Cos., hope to use Topgolf as a lure for future Commonwealth Center office tenants. The commercial development, approved for 1.4 million square feet, is home to Visa and nothing else, despite a decade of effort on Peterson's part.
“The new Topgolf location will provide a unique corporate entertainment amenity for the thousands of local businesses in Loudoun and Western Fairfax counties,” Randy Starr, Topgolf’s chief development officer, said in a statement. “Additionally, with the future minor league ballpark planned across from Loudoun County Parkway, Topgolf should anchor one of the most exciting new entertainment developments for Loudoun County residents.”
Topgolf, where players hit microchipped-golf balls at targets, opened its first U.S. location in Kingstowne in 2005. According to the company, the two Northern Virginia locations are expected to generate $264.5 million in economic output over the next 10 years.
