WASHINGTON - Fairfax Delegate Tom Rust has narrowly won a recount to serve another two-year term in the Virginia House of Delegates.
Rust won by 32 votes to survive a recount challenge from Democrat Jennifer Boysko.
Boysko sought the recount after initially finishing 54 votes behind Rust out of more than 10,000 votes cast in the Nov. 5 election.
Boysko, who is an aide to Fairfax County Supervisor John Foust, picked up 43 additional votes in the recount, but was short the votes needed to overcome Rust's lead.
The 86th House District serves parts of Fairfax and Loudoun counties.
Rust was recently named chair of the House Transportation Committee and will oversee the spending of new revenue generated from the landmark transportation reform funding law passed last year.
Rust takes the reigns from outgoing Delegate Joe May, R-Leesburg, who lost a primary challenge because of his support for the transportation funding law.
