WASHINGTON - A Loudoun County woman has been charged with murdering her young daughter nearly seven years after the girl's death.
The 20-month-old toddler, Jocelin Gutierrez, died in August 2005, but charges were never filed.
On Tuesday, the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office announced murder charges against the girl's mother, 30-year-old Vanesa Patricio-Cruz of Sterling. The sheriff's office said a recent follow-up investigation revealed that the girl died of blunt force trauma.
Patricio-Cruz is being held at the county jail without bond.
The charges come a day after police in neighboring Prince William County filed murder charges against a 22-year-old mother for the 2010 death of her infant son.
