Cougar spotted in Loudoun County

WASHINGTON – There are reports of another cougar on the loose in the D.C. area — this time in Loudoun County.

And just like when there were reports of a cougar in Northwest D.C., we’re not talking about an attractive older lady. This would be an actual cougar, mountain lion or puma.

There have been several sightings near the Gilberts Corner area. CBS News correspondent Sharyl Attkisson says she a spotted a cougar in the back yard of her Loudoun County home.

She says county officials told her that there have been hundreds of sightings of the wild cats every year, but they are hard to confirm.

In October, Helen McGinnis, a former tracker and Cougar Rewilding Foundation information specialist, told WTOP that most mountain lion sightings are usually something else altogether.
