Body of missing boater found in Loudoun reservoir

WASHINGTON – The body of a missing boater has been recovered in a Loudoun County reservoir.

Anthony M. DiGiovanna, 49, of Ashburn, was canoeing at the Beaverdam Creek Reservoir with his 7-year-old son and a dog Sunday afternoon when their boat capsized, the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office says.

Witnesses helped the boy — who was wearing a life jacket and has since been released from the hospital — to the shore, but his father was not immediately found.

Rescuers searched the reservoir into Monday morning, and DiGiovanna’s body was found just before noon Monday. Officials say he was not wearing a life jacket when the boat capsized.
