LEESBURG, Va. (AP) - Authorities in Loudoun County say a boy is dead and his mother is seriously injured after they were hit by a car while trying to cross a road in Ashburn.
The pair was struck just after 9 p.m. Monday while attempting to cross Farmwell Road at Ashburn Village Boulevard.
Officials say 8-year-old Beshoy Shokr of Ashburn was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. The woman, 29-year-old Eman Thabet of Ashburn, was also taken to a hospital where she was in stable condition.
The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and has been helping investigators. He has not been charged with any violations.
Police say neither alcohol nor speed is believed to be a factor in the crash.
