Married couple, both lawyers, charged in McLean ‘torture session’

WASHINGTON — Police charged a couple in connection with a home invasion
that is being called a revenge-torture session involving
a McLean couple who are still recovering in the hospital.

Andrew Schmuhl, 31, and Alecia Schmuhl, 30, of Springfield, Virginia, remain
in custody at the the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.

Each has been charged with two counts of abduction and two counts of malicious
wounding.

Police say around 6:30 p.m. on Nov. 9, Leo Fisher, 61, answered a knock on
his front door on Spencer Road.

According to information released at the bond
hearing in Fairfax County
on Friday, Andrew Schmuhl was at the door with a
badge and gun. He tasered Fisher and then tasered Fisher’s wife, Susan Duncan,
when she came following the commotion, The Washington Post reported.

According to the prosecutor, Schmuhl then allegedly handcuffed the two, and
dragged them into the bathroom where he held a “torture session” for hours.
They were reportedly stabbed repeatedly.

The prosecutor said that Fisher, an attorney, was Alecia Schmuhl’s boss. She
was an attorney at the prominent law firm of Bean, Kinney & Korman, before she
was dismissed recently, according to a Washington Post report. This led
the prosecution to declare this a crime of revenge.

One of the victims was able to trigger an alarm, according to a USA 9
report
. The Schmuhls fled in a car driven by Alecia Schmuhl, who was
reportedly outside during the incident.

Fisher was able to give a vehicle description in a written “dying
declaration,” according to the prosecution. When police caught up to the
married couple, Alecia Schmuhl was driving, and Andrew Schmuhl, also an
attorney and former judge advocate general (JAG) in the Army, was naked
except for a diaper that was covered in blood.

Alecia Schmuhl, who reports say served on the board of the Arlington-
Alexandria Coalition for Homeless, has also been charged with felony eluding
and obstruction of justice.

Police say the couple had multiple life-threatening stab wounds to their
upper bodies.
