True Food Kitchen aiming for late September opening, The Melt Shop to bring more grilled cheese

True Food Kitchen, the latest restaurant to join the Mosaic District development in Merrifield, aims to open Sept. 23.

The restaurant from Phoenix-based Fox Restaurant Concepts focuses on a globally-inspired menu that adheres to an “anti-inflammatory diet” designed by wellness guru Dr. Andrew Weil. Michael Obermeier will serve as executive chef of the Mosaic location.

It will be the 10th True Food Kitchen for Fox Restaurant Concepts, which owns several other restaurant s and restaurant chains mostly on the West Coast, including North Italia, Culinary Dropout and Blanco Tacos and Tequila.

The 5,980-square-foot restaurant will seat 142 in the dining room and an additional 46 on a covered patio outside. It will be located at 2910 District Avenue.

The Melt Shop: Bring on more grilled cheese. New York-based sandwich shop Melt Shop is making its way to D.C., with a signed lease for a location at 1901 L St. NW, according to the brokers involved in the deal. (Papadopoulos Properties represented Melt Shop and Miller Walker Retail Real Estate represented the landlord.)

Melt Shop offers uber-cheesy breakfast, lunch and dinner sandwiches including the Melt Breakfast, which includes eggs, cheese, sausage and tater tots and the fried chicken melt, which has fried chicken, pepper jack cheese, red cabbage slaw and melt sauce. Melt Shop will join another grilled cheese-focused restaurant downtown when it opens: GCDC opened earlier this year on Pennsylvania Ave. NW, a block from the White House.

Capriotti’s: Sub shop Capriotti’s finally has an opening date for Rosslyn: Aug. 25. The Delaware-founded sandwich shop known for its favor with Vice President Joe Biden will be the first in Virginia, and the second for local franchisee George Vincent Jr. As we reported earlier, Vincent plans to open another in Georgetown this fall, and two more, he hopes, by the end of the year.
