WASHINGTON -- Water leaking into a transformer in an electrical room Thursday night caused a fire in a high-rise undergoing a major renovation in the Tysons Corner area of Fairfax County, Virginia.
Firefighters encountered heavy smoke when they arrived at the 12-story building in the 7900 Westpark Drive just before 8:30 p.m.
Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department says about 60 construction workers and about a dozen office workers had to be evacuated.
The two-alarm fire caused more than $50,000 in damages. Nobody was hurt.
Firefighters also responded to another accidental fire Thursday night in the Annandale area.
A safety vest drawn into a fan motor caused the $15,000 in damage at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology.
Firefighters contained the blaze to the roof.
A major renovation is underway at the school at 6560 Braddock Rd.
