VIENNA, Va. (AP) -- Fairfax County police say a man has turned himself in to face charges in the shooting death of a Mount Vernon teenager.
Authorities say 23-year-old Jose Alberto Blanco-Calzadilla was in custody after surrendering to police on Sunday. It wasn't immediately clear if he had a lawyer.
He's accused of shooting 16-year-old Gerard Gomez outside a Vienna hotel early Sunday morning. Police believe a party inside the hotel, the Residence Inn on Westwood Center Drive, may have spilled onto the sidewalk.
Gomez was pronounced dead at the scene after efforts to resuscitate him failed.
Counselors will be available to students at Mount Vernon High School, where Gomez was a junior, beginning Monday. His friends held a vigil for him Sunday night.
