WASHINGTON - Fairfax County police believe a man who has been groping and grabbing women for months has attacked again.
The latest attack would be the 22nd time the groper has struck, police say.
Police say a 32-year-old woman was putting luggage in the trunk of a car in the 6400 block of Franconia Court Monday evening when a man came up and grabbed her from behind.
When the woman turned around, the man fled, police say.
The suspect was described as a white man, between 20 and 30, about 5-foot-10. He wore a white T-shirt, blue jeans and a white ball cap.
The attack fits the profile of a man who has become known as the "serial groper." All of the victims are women who live in the Springfield area.
Police held a community-wide meeting Thursday to answer questions and concerns. Officers briefed residents on the assaults and provided crime prevention tips to help women from being victimized.
Prior to Monday's attack, the groper last struck on March 1, grabbing a woman as she walked down Floyd Avenue near Hanover Street around lunchtime.
