HERNDON, Va. - They come in mild, medium, hot and suicide -- and they were voted No. 1 in WTOP's Top 10 wings competition.
Jimmy's Old Town Tavern in Herndon has been serving wings since 1997, and owner Jimmy Cirrito says he knows the secret.
"It's the sauce, it comes straight from Buffalo, it's UPS, we get it two or three times a month, we get large portions of it," Cirrito says.
Legend has it that chicken wings were invented in Buffalo, N.Y., so Cirrito makes sure to get the sauce right from the source.
Customers at Jimmy's Tuesday said the restaurant is "amazing," and that the meat on the wings sticks to the bone just right.
"I don't know of any better," one man said.
According to Jimmy's website, the restaurant's building is believed to have been constructed in 1897 and was originally a general store and tavern. It may even be haunted.
After renovations, Cirrito, along with Maureen and Kelsey Cirrito, opened the doors on May 29, 1997.
And potential ghost notwithstanding, Cirrito does offer one warning:
"There's not a live chicken within a thousand-mile radius of Jimmy's," he says.
