VIENNA, Va. (AP) - A former student at Wolftrap Elementary School in Vienna has donated $800,000 for the construction of a building in honor of his third-grade teacher.

The Washington Post reports that a groundbreaking was held Monday for the Candace Leyton Innovation Learning Lab, which aims to give teachers and students and students technology and space for creative and experiential learning.

The building was built with a donation from Chris Shumway, who was a student at the school in the 1970s and went on to work on Wall Street. The Shumway Foundation said in a statement that it was proud to honor Leyton "and other great teachers who bring creativity and a love of learning to the classroom."

Leyton died in 2003 at age 54 of breast cancer.
