The Salvation Army National Capital Area Command

Our Work: The Salvation Army National Capital Area Command assisted 85,878 people, last year, delivering a wide array of basic social services designed to keep struggling families in their homes, the heat and lights on, and stomachs fed. This includes providing emergency assistance for rent (mortgage) and utilities to prevent eviction or shutoff, and food support to keep local families and the homeless. We provide transitional shelter to young mothers and their children, comprehensive substance abuse treatment to adults seeking to overcome addiction, and compassionate emergency services to victims and first responders of disaster. The Salvation Army is creating opportunities for children and teens to grow through music and youth programming. Our Mission: The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian church. Its message is based on the Bible. Its ministry is motivated by the love of God. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination.
