WASHINGTON -- Love may be in the air, but not so much on the ground -- at least at one local airport.

The travel-dating website MissTravel.com polled members on the worst airports in America for long delays and Dulles International Airport was the winner... or the loser, according to its website.

This winter has been especially brutal for air travel. Since January, passengers across the country have endured the most flight cancellations in 25 years.

"The busiest airports on the East Coast, the ones most likely to have weather-related conditions, are the ones you don't want to be stuck in," says Jennifer Gwynn, a spokeswoman for Miss Travel.

According to 44,740 respondents in the survey, Dulles is not a place they'd like to get stranded.

"There's nothing really good to eat, and you have to walk a really long way if you want to get something that's better than Wendy's," Gwynn says, describing common responses.

The survey asked members to rate airports based on criteria such as cleanliness, availability of food and shopping options and wi-fi accessibility.

New York's LaGuardia Airport ranked right behind Dulles as a place travelers are happy to leave.

Not coincidentally, the top seven airports ranked worst for long delays are on the East Coast.

Last year, the travel-dating site polled members on the best airports to become stranded. That title went to Dallas-Fort Worth International.

Below is the list of the top eight worst airports for layovers with No. 1 being the worst:

  1. Dulles International Airport

  2. LaGuardia Airport in New York

  3. Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport

  4. Philadelphia International Airport

  5. Logan International Airport in Boston

  6. Newark Liberty International Airport

  7. John F. Kennedy International Airport

  8. Los Angeles International Airport
