POCAHONTAS, Va. (AP) -- Tazewell County officials are optimistic that construction will soon begin on a new trail system after receiving a $100,000 recreation grant.
The grant was awarded to the county through the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation.
County Administration Jim Spencer told the Bluefield Daily Telegraph (http://bit.ly/XVtHzh) that the county applied for the grant two years ago to help finance the Spearhead Trail system.
Officials are funding the more than 50 miles of trails through various grants.
Spencer says the county is hoping to bid out construction of the trail as soon as it completes all of the appropriate land agreements. Some of the work will be rehabbing existing trails while some is constructing new trails.
