Confirmed: Alexandria’s waterfront hotel will be an Indigo Hotel

We now have a final answer on what flag will fly on Alexandria’s first waterfront hotel. The Carr Hospitality-owned hotel will be a Hotel Indigo, a brand from the InterContinental Hotels Group.

The news comes from the Alexandria Board of Architectural Review’s approval of the hotel’s sign, which clearly shows the Hotel Indigo name and shell-shaped logo. The five-story, 121-room hotel will also have a yet-to-be-named restaurant.

The hotel will be located at 220 S. Union Street at the former Cummings warehouse site. It is part of a larger swath of development planned for the city’s waterfront, which has been largely fallow.

It would be the first Indigo Hotel in the D.C. area; it’s expected to cost less than $50 million and come online late 2015 or early 2016. The hotel was approved by the City Council in January and is expected to take 15 to 18 months to build.

The Hotel Indigo isn’t the only waterfront hotel Carr has in the works. Carr is working with InterContinental on a hotel at The Wharf development in Southwest D.C.
