ALEXANDRIA, Va. (AP) -- A former employee with the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles has pleaded guilty to taking bribes to help people in the U.S. illegally get driver's licenses from the department.
Forty-five-year-old Maria Cavallaro of Springfield entered the plea Thursday in federal court in Alexandria. She faces a maximum of 10 years in prison at sentencing Jan. 31.
According to court documents, Cavallaro solicited cash payments from applicants to help them get driver's licenses, learner's permits, and identification cards for which they were not eligible.
