Alexandria homes without water for hours after main break

WASHINGTON – Some residents in the Groveton neighborhood of Alexandria are still without water after 12 hours.

Fairfax Water reported on its website the utility was experiencing multiple water main breaks along Telegraph Road.

They also reported the main break at the intersection of Telegraph Road and Florence Lane had been repaired and water service had been restored to customers in that area.

However, Telegraph Road remains closed in both directions between Wilton Road and Franconia while damage to the road is repaired.

There are three remaining main breaks:

  • 5959 Wilton Road
  • 5975 Telegraph Road
  • 6103 Telegraph Road near the intersection with The Parkway

Some homes in both areas are without water service.

The utility says crews are working to repair the breaks as quickly as possible.

WTOP listener @LizInLife tweeted that she had been without water for more than 12 hours.

Fairfax Water says it will provide updates until the two breaks are repaired.

Fairfax Water serves nearly 1.7 million people in the Northern Virginia communities of Fairfax, Loudoun, Prince William and Alexandria.
