ALEXANDRIA, Va. - A 13-year-old girl is being hailed as a hero after helping save a a six-year-old boy at Alexandria's Warwick pool.
Erin Boyle thought her friend was playing games Friday afternoon when she said a boy was at the bottom of the pool. But then she saw the boy at the bottom of four feet of water, and knew something wasn't right.
"I lifted him out of the water as soon as I could," says Erin. "When I brought him up to the surface, water came gushing out of his mouth."
She then screamed for the lifeguards to come help.
"He (the lifeguard) grabbed the boy by the arm and the leg, and yanked him out of my hands," she says.
The lifeguard began performing CPR, and the Alexandria Fire Department says the boy is expected to be okay. He was at the pool with a city summer camp.
Erin says she's no hero.
"I knew that boy needed help, and sitting around there wringing my hands screaming wasn't going to do anything," she says.
