WASHINGTON (AP) - A contractor that provides meals to home-bound elderly residents in the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia has shut down operations.

The vendor, Nutrition Inc., was responsible for more than 13,000 meals a day in DC, Alexandria, and Montgomery and Prince George's counties and has served the region since 1976.

It notified the D.C. Office on Aging that it would stop providing the meals on June 6, and city officials say they're trying to find other vendors who can help fill the void.

Canjor Reed, Nutrition's chief executive, tells The Washington Post that the company's revenues fell sharply after it bought a large warehouse in Landover. She said she's laid off many employees already and expects the company have to file for bankruptcy.
