Activist: Tsarnaev doesn’t deserve to be buried on American soil

WASHINGTON – An activist group plans to talk to Virginia’s attorney general and congressional leaders to see whether one of the Boston Marathon bombing suspects will remain at a Doswell, Va., cemetery.

“I don’t think someone who hated America with the intensity that this man did deserves to be buried on American soil,” James Lafferty, chairman of the Virginia Anti-Shariah Task Force, tells WTOP.

He says Doswell — a “quiet, peaceful place” with a rich Revolutionary and Civil War history — should not be where Tamerlan Tsarnaev’s body remains.

“There’s no way that soil there that people fought over should be used for someone who killed innocent Americans,” he says.

Lafferty says he plans to talk with lawyers and Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli, a Republican, but says he’s “mostly relying on guidance from the people in Doswell.”

“They don’t want that body there,” he says.

Republican Rep. Rob Wittman, who represents the area where the cemetery is located, told WTOP Tuesday that despite the outrage, the cemetery owners can inter whomever they choose.

Lafferty says rather than Caroline County, Va., Tsarnaev should have been buried at sea, like Osama bin Laden was.
