Signs posted on metered blocks give the zone number app users must enter when paying by app. (WTOP/Kristi King)
Following in the steps of D.C. and Maryland’s Montgomery County, Alexandria will introduce the app option for metered parking spaces on Dec. 9. Now, instead of using pay station kiosks, smartphone owners can pay by entering the zone number found on signs along each metered block.
To register, users create an account by entering their cell number, license plate and credit card numbers in the app. Or, they can pay-by-phone by calling 855-547- 2646. An additional fee is required for phone users.
Alexandria is the first Virginia locality to offer a parking app, but Arlington officials say the county is considering it, too.
