WASHINGTON – March 12 was National Girl Scouts Day, which commemorates the day in 1912 when Juliette Gordon Low officially registered the organization’s first 18 girl members in Savannah, Ga.

March is also Women’s History Month and March 10-16 is Girl Scout Week.

The Girl Scouts are now a worldwide movement of empowerment. As the GSA says, “Girl scouting builds girls of courage, confidence and character, who make the world a better place.”

Among those celebrating are the more than 90,000 members of The Girls Scout Council of the Nation’s Capital (GSCNC). It really is much more than just cookie sales.

Here, the Berkeley County West Virginia Mountaineer Steppers perform for the GSCNC President’s Circle at the Four Seasons in D.C. They’re helping raise an additional $57,000 for D.C. area Girl Scout summer camp scholarships.
