Local beers now at Nationals Park

WASHINGTON – Nationals fans can now wash down the peanuts and Cracker Jack with a local brew.

Four area breweries recently set up carts to pour their popular drafts, and they’ll resume tapping the kegs for the team’s return home Monday night.

The featured local breweries are DC Brau, Port City Brewing Company, 3 Stars Brewing and Mad Fox Brewing Company.

“The significance of having local beer at the local ballpark is huge,” says Jen Chase, who runs the tasting room at Port City Brewing. “It’s the first time within the Beltway that we’ve had local beer there.”

Port City Brewing Company Owner Bill Butcher pushed for the expansion of local beers at the ballpark. The other three breweries were all in on the conversation.

“Craft beer is exploding, as we can all see with the trends,” Chase says. “People have a discerning pallet now, and they want craft beer while they’re watching the game, eating their hot dogs.”

The cost of a local craft beer is the exact same as a popular, mass-produced beer. The going rate is $9.

“It supports the local economy, it’s green, it’s sustainable, and the fact that [fans] can have a more advanced, flavorful beer while watching the game has just been really exciting,” she says.

The District beer cart has two locations at Nationals Park. They are by sections 138 and 308.

For now, these are the beers on tap:
