D.C. rap duo returns from shooting video in North Korea (Video)

WASHINGTON – A D.C. rap duo is back on American soil after traveling to North Korea to shoot its latest video.

The rappers, Pacman and Peso, titled their song “Escape to North Korea,” so it only made sense to shoot the video there, says Pacman.

However, the State Department is urging Americans not to travel to the country.

“That made it even more fun, even more daring to go,” says Pacman.

Pacman and Peso, who hail from the Washington View neighborhood and Landover, Md., respectively, launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise money for the trip. It went viral immediately.

“The goal was $6,000 at first,” he says.

In the end, they raised more than $10,000. The group toured Asia before arriving in Pyongyang where they shot the video at the airport, on the streets and at various spots around town, in part with a tour group.

When they arrived in Pyongyang, they met with AP photographers, which felt very much like home, Pacman says.

“It was normal, just like traveling like, going to New York or something,” he says.

They were never concerned they wouldn’t be able to return home, Pacman says. The pair arrived back in the United States in early December.
