WASHINGTON (AP) -- Drawings from 50 years ago by longtime Washington Post cartoonist Herblock are going on display at the Library of Congress.

The new exhibit, "Herblock Looks at 1963," examines the final year of John F. Kennedy's presidency. It opens Saturday at the Thomas Jefferson Building and will run through Sept. 14.

In 1963, Kennedy faced opposition to numerous initiatives. There was the nuclear test ban treaty with the Soviet Union, proposed tax cuts to reduce economic stagnation and education funding. The year also brought the March on Washington for civil rights.

During the March on Washington, Herblock sat in the press tent as the crowd grew and captured the moment in a cartoon.

The exhibit includes 10 drawings by Herbert L. Block. Ten more go on view in September.
