Saggy pants would be a no-no on O.C. boardwalk

WASHINGTON – Saggy pants and bare feet would be out under a proposal for the boardwalk in Ocean City, Md.

Town councilmember Brent Ashley says he’s had enough with bad behavior on the town’s boardwalk.

Already this season, there have been brawls, robberies and even stabbings.

Ashley said it’s time for a return to decency, The Baltimore Sun reports.

He wants Ocean City to have a law similar to one in Wildwood, N.J., which has a $25 fine for saggy pants and a requirement that people over 12 wear shoes, as well as shirts that cover the “breast or pectoral” areas.

However, Ocean City Mayor Rick Meehan is hoping the fashion police won’t be necessary.

“Sometimes 7:30, 8 o’clock at night, you’ve just come off the beach. You’re in Ocean City because the weather is hot. You don’t have time to go home and change,” Meehan told WTOP.

Meehan said common sense should dictate.

The Ocean City Council is expected to take up the decency law in a few weeks.
