WASHINGTON -- WTOP was first to tell you about irregularities surrounding a local political action committee. Now, WTOP has learned there will be no charges filed against the candidate.
The audit by the D.C. Office of Campaign Finance found that Councilman Jack Evans (Ward-2) violated no campaign laws by collecting money for his political action committee, called the "Jack PAC."
WTOP first reported that Evans collected tens of thousands of dollars for the PAC and spent most of the money on himself for items like trips and season tickets to the Wizards and Nationals.
Evans says he's happy about the findings, but it will not change his decision to stay out of the race for Chairman of the Council.
The audit did recommend that Evans pay back about $6,700 that went to pay for his friend to accompany him on a trip to China.
Evans says he has paid the money back, disbanded the PAC and given the remaining $30,000 in the PAC to the Ward-2 Democrats.
