Rappahannock River Oysters’ Travis Croxton to open restaurant in Mosaic District

Add oysters to the Mosaic District’s dining options. Travis Croxton of Rappahannock Oyster Co. will open a bar and restaurant called Rocksalt next year in the Merrifield mixed-use development.

The restaurant won’t be a Rappahannock River Oysters-branded restaurant, but it will serve bivalves from the Topping, Va.-based company, Croxton confirmed. There aren’t many more details at this time, but the 4,900 square foot restaurant will have lots of outdoor seating and open sometime in 2015, he said.

“It’ll be a fun spot, for sure,” Croxton said in an email. The restaurant will be in the second phase of the development, which is expected to open next year. Mosaic developer Edens did not return calls for comment.

Rappahannock River Oysters has been in growth mode in the Washington region for the past few years. An outpost at another Edens project, Union Market in D.C., opened in 2012, and Croxton recently partnered with “Top Chef” alum Mike Isabella on a second location of his pizza spot, Graffiato, to be located in Richmond.

Rocksalt will join Matchbox, Ted’s Bulletin, Cyclone Anaya’s, sweetgreen, Taylor Gourmet and Red Apron Butchery among Mosaic’s dining options.
