WTOP Guide: Mardi Gras parties around town

WASHINGTON — Fat Tuesday is a time to eat and be merry because the following day marks the beginning of Lent, when observers typically give up something for 40 days.

And because it marks the last night of revelry, the only real way to celebrate is at one of the many extravagant Fat Tuesday parties around town.

Bourbon Street Bash

Sure to be one of the rowdiest parties around, Rumors in Northwest D.C. will be turned into the ultimate Fat Tuesday soiree, complete with $2 Coors Lights, $3 Blue Moons and $4 Bacardi Hurricanes, plus cajun food and more. Festivities kick off at 4 p.m.

Havre de Grace Mardi Gras Parade

Gather at Bourbon and St. John’s streets around 6:30 p.m. for the free parade.

Mardi Gras Party at Acadiana Restaurant

$100 gets you live music, oyster po’boys, mini muffalettas, meat and veggie pies, deviled eggs, charbroiled oysters and more. Don’t miss wine, beer and cocktail specials. The party goes from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Mardi Gras at On the Border Tysons Corner

Drink specials plus Cajun cooking intersect at this border crossing. The event starts at 5 p.m. and is free.

Jimmy’s 17th Annual Mardi Gras Celebration

According to the website: Trummer’s on Main will be celebrating too with indulgent New Orleans inspired fare including an Oyster Po’Boy, Shrimp Creole and Cinnamon Sugar Beignets! Mardi Gras can’t be celebrated without imbibing – so Stefan Trummer will be serving his versions of the classic cocktails Sazaracs, Hurricanes and his Mint Julep!

Dogfish Head Alehouse Fairfax

Local brewmasters team up for a night of beer and special Cajun treats like crawfish, gumbo and oysters. Tickets are $60.
