Ocean City shuts down 8 henna tattoo stands

OCEAN CITY, Md. (AP) — Ocean City Police and federal authorities have shut down eight henna tattoo stands that had been operating on the city’s boardwalk because the tattoo artists lacked work visas.

The town’s police department announced the enforcement actions Friday.

Agents from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations unit joined local police on the sweep, which occurred last week.

Police say they found 10 individuals operating the tattoo stands even though they are in the U.S. on student visas. Authorities said that running a tattoo stand is not allowed on a student visa.

The students were given warnings and agreed to shut down the stands.
