Bluefields to mark 90th anniversary of shared name

BLUEFIELD, W.VA. (AP) — The two Bluefields in West Virginia and Virginia will duplicate a wedding ceremony to celebrate the 90th anniversary of their shared name.

Bluefield, Virginia, changed its name from Graham in 1924. To mark the switch, a Virginia man and a West Virginia woman were wed near the state line on July 12, 1924.

The Bluefield Daily Telegraph (http://bit.ly/1k52vcc ) reports that the ceremony will be duplicated Saturday. Twenty-year-old Stephanie Muncy of Nemours, West Virginia, and 23-year-old Cody Woodall of Bluefield, Virginia, will be wed at a public ceremony at the city park in the West Virginia city.

The couple will kick off the two-day anniversary celebration Friday night by throwing out the first pitch for the Bluefield Blue Jays.

Other activities include musical performances on Saturday.
