Deaf dad hears daughter sing for the first time (Video)

WASHINGTON - A Missouri girl's performance at her high school Christmas concert had an extra bit of cheer because it was the first time her deaf dad heard her sing.

Last week, Ken Stehle -- who has been deaf for more than 50 years -- wore a special hearing aid to his daughter's concert. Stehle, of St. Peters, Mo., had never heard his 15-year-old daughter Ashley sing a single note until the show, according to TODAY.com.

Ashley wore a special microphone that transmits sound to a receiver around her dad's neck, which sends the signal to his new hearing aid.

During the concert, Ashley performed her first solo song -- "Daddy Please Come Home For Christmas." The song was not listed in the program so her dad would be surprised, TODAY.com reports.

"He was just closing his eyes and listening to my voice. He didn't really care if he was seeing me because he has always seen me, he wanted to hear me and that was just awesome," she told St. Louis news station KSDK.

The two embraced following her song.

"It's amazing. I had goose bumps all over me. I'm very proud of my daughter," Ken told KSDK.
