Richmond jail dads program sets graduation

Friday - 10/25/2013, 3:31am  ET

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- A program for incarcerated fathers at the Richmond City Jail is conducting graduation ceremonies.

Prisoners who completed the re-entry program known as "Inside Out Dad" will share what they learned before receiving certificates Friday afternoon. The program is led by AmeriCorps members from First Things First of Greater Richmond.

The Richmond Sheriff's Office calls it the nation's only evidence-based program designed specifically for working with imprisoned fathers. In the three-month program, the dads learn a variety of fathering skills to improve their awareness, knowledge and attitudes about fatherhood.
