WASHINGTON – In the wake of the announcement that the New York City marathon has been canceled, a new kind of help has sprung up for Sandy victims, in the form of hotel rooms.

Race2Recover NYC is facilitating the transfer of hotel reservations from marathon runners who would otherwise have to cancel them to victims of Sandy’s wrath, those who have lost their homes.

For marathoners who are interested, Race2Recover makes it easy. People who want to donate their hotel rooms can just pass along the info for their reservation and the group makes all the phone calls to arrange it.

The group reports that there are 47,000 people registered for the race.

“If you’re a runner willing to donate your room, all we need from you is your hotel reservation information and we will call the hotels directly to facilitate transferring the reservation,” their website states. “If you’re a New Yorker looking for a place to stay, please submit your information and we will grant you a room on a first-come, first-served basis.”
