6,190 Va. customers remain without power

Thursday - 11/1/2012, 4:27pm  ET

RICHMOND, Va. - About 6,190 utility customers in Virginia remain without electricity as a result of Superstorm Sandy.

Dominion Virginia Power says about 700 customers are without service Thursday, mostly in northern Virginia. The utility says it expects to have power restored by Thursday night except in a few locations where flooding or severe damage occurred.

A majority of about 450 outages reported by electric cooperatives also are in northern Virginia.

Appalachian Power is reporting about 5,040 outages, mainly in southwest Virginia. The utility says significant damage occurred to its transmissions lines. Restoration is expected to most areas in Russell and Tazewell counties by Thursday night, and in Buchanan and Dickenson counties by Friday night. The company had no estimate for restoration in other areas where damage was still being assessed.
