FINZEL, Md. - Maryland State Police and highway officials say the westbound lanes of Interstate 68 near Finzel are blocked by tractor-trailers struggling to climb Big Savage Mountain in a blizzard.
A state police dispatcher said Monday night there are no injuries, but some vehicles are sideways in the road.
He says 6 inches of heavy, wet snow have fallen near the Allegany-Garrett county line. The National Weather Service predicts 10 to 14 inches in the area Monday, followed by several more inches Tuesday.
The State Highway Administration says there's no estimate for how long the westbound lanes will remain blocked. Spokesman Dave Buck says the trucks were briefly freed, but then got stuck again.
The blockage is about 160 miles west of Baltimore.
