Watch: Local 20-year-old makes finals of ‘The Voice’

UPDATE 11/26/2014 2:15 p.m.: Ryan Sill has continued to advance in “The Voice”
and is now in the top eight.

EARLIER 11/16/2014 7:36 a.m.: WASHINGTON — When the NBC talent search show “The
Voice” hits the air Monday
night, a northern Virginia man will be among the
top finalists competing for the championship.

He’s 20-year-old Ryan Sill of Sterling, Virginia, who is taking a year off
from his engineering studies at James Madison University to see how far his
musical talent can take him.

Ryan, who graduated from Dominion High School in Sterling, was a member of
the male a cappella group at James Madison, which produced, among other
videos, a version of
“Titanium,” earning nearly 9,000 hits on YouTube (seen below).

The road to “The Voice” finals began, however, when Ryan Sill was a little boy
singing
at recitals. His mom teaches voice, and Ryan and his sisters are among her
students.

Gwen Stefani is his coach on “The Voice,” and he’s Tweeted his thanks to her
for what she’s taught him and for believing in him.

Stefani saved Ryan from elimination and kept him on her team for the finals.
