LYNCHBURG, Va. (AP) — D.J. Abnar rushed 27 times for 137 yards and two touchdowns to lead Liberty to a 34-0 win over Gardner-Webb on Saturday in a Big South opener for both teams.
Abnar rushed for over 100 yards for the third-straight game — the first Flame to do so since 2008 — to help Liberty outgain Gardner-Webb 292 to minus-17 on the ground.
Liberty (5-3) held Gardner-Webb (4-4) to six first downs and 56 total yards in the game — with three first downs and 35 yards coming on the Runnin’ Bulldogs’ final drive.
Liberty’s Dante Shells caught two balls for 106 yards, a week after a career-high 164 against Appalachian State. Josh Woodrum passed for 204 yards, including a 6-yard touchdown to Jaquan Glover. Abnar had scoring plays of 4 and 19 yards.
Gardner-Webb lost to Liberty for the eighth-straight time, including a 24-0 defeat last season.
