Teen who escaped in Tennessee found in Virginia

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — A teenager accused of escaping from a transport van in Tennessee has been arrested about 650 miles away in Virginia after he allegedly took off in a police cruiser.

WKRN-TV (http://bit.ly/1vowR1K ) reports the 15-year-old was arrested Friday morning in Frederick County, Virginia. The sheriff’s office there says the boy was first picked up on an alert from Tennessee but took off in a cruiser while deputies talked to other occupants of the car he had been in.

The sheriff’s office said the teen was handcuffed behind his back but somehow managed to get into the driver’s seat and drive off.

He was stopped after a chase and taken to a hospital with minor injuries.

Tennessee authorities said the teen and a 17-year-old boy fled Thursday while being taken to a detention facility in Montgomery County. The older teen surrendered soon after.
