Shenandoah educator named Va. Teacher of the Year

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — A middle school agricultural teacher from Shenandoah County has been named the 2015 Virginia Teacher of the Year.

The Virginia Department of Education says Jaclyn Roller Ryan from Signal Knob Middle School was given the award Friday night in Richmond.

Ryan will be the state’s nominee in the Council of Chief State School Officers’ National Teacher of the Year Program.

The other seven 2015 Regional Teachers of the Year are: Tara Brunyansky at James River High in Chesterfield County; Bevin Reinen at Three Oaks Elementary in Virginia Beach; Jennifer Worrell at Petsworth Elementary in Gloucester County; Gerin Martin at Hutcherson Early Learning Program in Lynchburg; Matthew Newton at Fishburn Park Elementary in Roanoke; Mark Merz at Oak Point Elementary in Smyth County; and Kelly Jones at Greensville County High School.
