2 from Md. killed in Va. plane crash at race track

ALTON, Va. (AP) — Virginia State Police say two people from Maryland were killed in a plane crash at Virginia International Raceway.

The crash occurred Friday afternoon in Alton. Police say no one on the ground was injured.

The two who were killed were the pilot and a passenger. State police identified the victims on Saturday as 46-year-old Jon Couch of Annapolis, Maryland and his mother, 72-year-old Frances G. Couch, also of Annapolis.

The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board have been notified and police say the investigation is ongoing.

The Danville Bee reports that the plane was a World War II-era T28-C that crashed in an infield patch of kudzu on the 1.1 mile Patriot Course.
