No Medicaid action expected in Virginia session

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — There will be plenty of talking but probably not much action when Virginia state lawmakers reconvene to discuss whether the Medicaid program should be expanded.

Both the state House and Senate are set to meet Thursday at noon at the Capitol.

Republican leaders said they’re holding a special session to discuss Medicaid expansion because they promised they would. But they’ve indicated on several occasions that they still oppose expansion.

Several Democrats have panned the special session, saying its pre-determined outcome makes it a waste of time.

Lawmakers are also set to take up a proposed bipartisan budget plan to cut the state budget by an additional $882 million to fill several judicial positions.
