Va. murder charge against Texas man dropped

PULASKI, Va. (AP) — Prosecutors in Virginia have dropped a first-degree murder charge against a Texas man.

Thirty-six-year-old Leslie Dickerson was accused of killing his then-wife, 26-year-old Mindy Dickerson, on Jan. 27, 2005, at the couple’s home in Pulaski County, Virginia. His trial was scheduled for Sept. 22.

The Roanoke Times (http://bit.ly/1rvMmPD ) reports that Pulaski County Commonwealth’s Attorney Mike Fleenor dropped the charge on Monday. The decision followed a judge’s ruling last week that some evidence would be inadmissible.

The murder charge was dropped but not dismissed. That means prosecutors could refile it in the future.

One of Dickerson’s lawyers, Jimmy Turk, tells the newspaper that he doesn’t believe the charge would be refiled.

Dickerson now lives in Texas and has remarried. He was arrested in Montgomery County, Texas, on Jan. 14.
