Virginia man sentenced in tax fraud case

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — A Stafford County man has been sentenced to three years and one month in prison for a $600,000 tax fraud scheme.

Daniel L. Jones of Fredericksburg was sentenced Thursday in federal court in Richmond.

He pleaded guilty in April to aiding in the preparation of fraudulent tax returns for clients and making a false statement to the Internal Revenue Service.

According to court documents, Jones ran a tax preparation service called Tax Doctor Plus in the Fredericksburg area. He prepared fraudulent returns for clients between 2009 and 2012 to increase their tax refunds, and falsely told the IRS that he was a certified public accountant.
