Solar panels to power Va. college radio station

EMORY, Va. (AP) — Solar panels will soon be installed that will power Emory & Henry College’s radio station.

The college says it is paying half of the $80,000 cost of the panels. The other half will come from a foundation’s grant.

The college says two rows of 96 panels will be assembled below WEHC-FM’s transmission tower near Interstate 81. The panels will produce 75 percent of the power needed to run the transmitter, which broadcasts to a five-county area in southwestern Virginia.

Emory & Henry says a company from Bristol, Tenn., will provide the panels and install them.
